The world is not what it seems....
| You seem a bit confused, and I believe I
know what that is. You've been through some traumatic events recently,
seen things you can't explain, things that maybe you don't want to
believe. Things that couldn't be real, couldn't possibly be true. |
|
Oh, I assure you, they are. |
|
You see, there are creatures that exist alongside us,
hiding within the dark places of man's domain. They might appear human,
and in fact spend a great deal of time concocting that ruse, but you
must always remember that they are not what they appear
to be... . |
|
During the 1800's, Mount Pleasant, Michigan was little more than a logging
community. After the 1850's there was a developmental boom, and this small
community began to grow at an alarming rate. In just a few short years,
Mount Pleasant became a prosperous city, a hub of culture and trade. While
the rate of growth was astounding, no one seemed to question a thing. At
least no one questioned it until travesty struck in 1903. |

A horrific display of violence erupted in the streets downtown. It was only then that we caught a glimpse of what else resided within Isabella County.... |
|
You're probably wondering why you've never heard of the massacre of 1903, and what any of that has to do with your being here now. The reasons are quite simple. These creatures I've alluded to, as we understand them, exist within our culture but also have a society all their own. Within that society, they form into subcultures, though how and why we do not know. For the purposes of our story we focus on two of these subcultures. While we know little about them we know that one is tied closely to the Catholic Church, and the other is somehow tied to Native American culture. These two groups, for some reason, seem to have a long standing and violent disposition toward one another. The massacre of 1903 was in actuality the result of a private war between those two groups that erupted into the streets of Mount Pleasant. By their own nature, these creatures promote secrecy as they utilize and manipulate humanity. The reason you've never heard of any of this is because they covered up the truth. These creatures work to manipulate and control our society, keeping us weak and in the dark. Yet despite their efforts, not everyone forgot what happened in 1903. |

Three men kept their knowledge of the incident secret, and together they realized that something had to be done. |
|
Together these men conspired to seek out the truth and to do what they could to protect humanity from the creatures that lurk in the darkness. In accordance with that mission, these men funded two different groups. The first of those groups became what is known today as the Neighborhood Watch, its purpose was not only to protect humanity but also to keep the maneuvers of the secondary group secret. |
The second group was simply called The Watchers. |

Like those they watch, the group keeps to the shadows,
secret and safe. |
|
After the massacre was covered up and the populace forgot what had happened,
the founders realized that if they made the secret known they would be
silenced, one way or another. So they watched. They watched and tried to
gather as much knowledge and information as possible. Through the
Neighborhood Watch, they attempted to protect humanity as best they could. |
|
Secretly, the Watchers would meet to share their knowledge, pursue secrets,
investigate strange occurrences, and to better understand what was truly
happening within their city, county and state. Over the years, the Watchers have continued their existence in secret, keeping to the shadows and going unnoticed by the people they protect as well as those they watched. Yet for all they have learned, they have barely scratched the surface of this information that has eluded human understanding. |

The Watcher society has always remained small so that it may remain
undiscovered, though as the city continues to grow, so does the supernatural
presence in it. With this increase in supernatural threats on top of the
mundane threats to the society that exist, numbers within the Watchers have
begun to swell. While increased numbers encourage the Watcher's ability to
gather information, there is danger as well. As the membership rises, so
does their chance of being discovered. |

Occasionally the creatures of the night would make a mistake and another would
stumble upon their secret. The Watchers would try to get to these
individuals and see just how much thy knew. If the person knew too much and
could not be persuaded to forget, the the Watchers would bring them into the
fold. |
|
Sadly, sometimes the Watchers could not reach the individuals before those
who exist in shadows descend upon them and make sure that their secret
stayed that way.... |
|
You are here because you have seen things not meant for human eyes. Your eyes
have been opened to the truth, and now you must make a choice. |
|
Will you forget what you've seen? Can you convince yourself that those horrible
visions were nothing but a dream? |
|
Or can you accept the truth that the world was not what you thought? |
|
Can you go back to your life, and wait for the inevitable? |
|
Or will you stand up against the darkness? |
|
